Auditions

No previous experience is necessary to audition for our shows!  We welcome all ages to our auditions, although, not all productions have roles for all actor types (youth, teens, male, female, seniors).  We do make every effort to include each actor type in a few shows each season.

Auditions are usually held as "cold readings" which means it is not necessary to arrive with a prepared scene to perform.  The exception to this is musical auditions in which a prepared song is required.  Our auditions are also open auditions so that everyone can see, learn and support each auditioner.  Of course, this system may change at the director's discretion, so, if in doubt, please contact the theater.

Please note: in order to participate in our productions, each auditioner is asked to sign an understanding of our theater etiquette including such items as arriving to rehearsals on time & prepared, treating others with respect and understanding that this is a commitment for the entire production & performance time period.  Children under 18 years must have this form signed by a parent or legal guardian.

Helpful Auditioning Hints

1. If possible, obtain a copy of the script prior to the auditions and read it carefully.

2. Arrive at the auditions at least 10 minutes prior in order to have plenty of time to complete the Audition Form.

3. Bring any potential rehearsal/performance date conflicts with you and list them on the Audition Form.  Also, please list any characters you absolutely will not play.

4. Ask to look at the scripts of the scenes that will be read at the audition.  Read over and ask yourself a) what is the scene about, b)who are the characters & what are they trying to accomplish and c)what emotions are revealed.

5. You may be asked to read for more than one part, even ones you may not be interested in.  Please use this as an opportunity for audition experience.

6. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask someone.  There are no silly questions!

7. There are many reasons for casting & not casting an actor including age, body type, size, show appropriateness, how the actor looks with the other actors, etc. that has nothing to do with an actor's abilities.  If you are not cast, please do not be discouraged and try again next time!  Of course, you could always participate with the current show backstage!  Let us know if you are interested!
